GMP Friction Products Hires Bob Malek as Director of Racing Products

Feb. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- AKRON, OHIO – GMP Friction Products, a leading manufacturer of powdered metal friction products for clutch plates and brake pads, hired Bob Malek as Director of Racing Products. Bringing more than 24 years of experience with friction materials, Malek will manage the design, development and manufacture of GMP Friction Product’s line of racing clutches and brakes.

“Bob has a vast amount of experience and expertise with friction materials in the racing industry, making him a valuable asset to our company,” said Jerry Lynch, President and COO of GMP Friction Products. “His extensive knowledge of prototyping, testing, production, and the customer base will be instrumental as we enter the racing industry.”

Malek’s focus will be to design and develop consistent and high performance clutches and brakes that are custom designed for specific applications in many professional and amateur categories of racing. These include drag racing categories within the Sportsman and Pro class levels of competition in the NHRA, IHRA, ADRL, and XRDL racing series. Malek is working with a team of engineers to establish a premier organization to develop world class racing products.

Prior to founding his own company, Friction Unlimited, a premier materials specialist company focused on racing and aerospace, Malek worked for the Raybestos Products Company as an R&D Specialist and a Process Engineer.  He also worked at Ace Manufacturing as a Manager of Powder Metals.  He gained extensive knowledge and experience in design and testing of friction materials to produce high quality parts from prototype to production.

As Director of Racing Products, Malek researches high quality friction materials, designing and prototyping. His responsibilities include combining friction components to develop brakes and clutches for specific racing applications. In addition to developing precise formulas and processes for testing, he ensures products are manufactured at the highest standards to meet each driver’s need for consistently repeatable performance.
