Feb. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- For the second time in a row, the respected Historical Novel Society has singled out Andrew Levkoff's writing with an Editors' Choice for his second novel, A Mixture of Madness. The book is the second installment in the series, The Bow of Heaven. Their review had this to say:  "Lavishly detailed and exuberantly intelligent. Filled with intrigue and action ... readers are drawn along by the author's sharp ear for dialogue and his impeccable dramatic timing."

In 2011, the first book in the series, The Other Alexander, was also honored with the Editors' Choice distinction.

 About A Mixture of Madness
"At 19, they chained Alexandros to the monstrous tail of a victorious Roman army; just one more morsel among thousands for a city always hungry for another helping of slaves.

30 years later, he rides at the head of seven legions beside his master and benefactor. Marcus Licinius Crassus is a man bent upon a war of revenge. Alexandros will do anything to stop him."

Acerbic, wry yet impossibly romantic, the slave Alexandros has survived scourging and more than one assassination attempt in the house of Crassus, but that was just a foretaste. As his master prepares for a war the senate will not sanction, new villains threaten, outlandish and terrifying strangers invade Rome's borders, and Alexandros is faced with the greatest trial of his life. Amidst the upheaval, he will gain a family from familiar and unexpected places.

Alexandros is bitterly against his master’s grand scheme of revenge against the ambitious and ruthless Julius Caesar. But what can he do? Crassus is raising an army to invade Parthia, the mysterious Eastern empire across the Euphrates. Alexandros has no choice but to follow and obey. Until, that is, he can come up with a better plan. A plan that, for a slave with nothing, will cost him everything.

About The Other Alexander
"In the greatest, foulest city in the world, love, mayhem and betrayal find the slave, Alexandros. Given as a gift to the richest man in Rome, he soon discovers that intrigue and murder stalk the house of his master. Alexandros can solve the crime, but if he does, the worst punishment may prove to be his own."

2012 Readers Favorite Silver Award, Historical Fiction
2011 eLit Book Awards Gold Award, Historical Fiction

Alexandros, a young Greek philosophy student, is wrenched from a life unlived to submit to the whims of an empire - as a slave of Rome. In a world without choice, he must use his cunning and wits to gain the trust of one of the most powerful men in the Republic.

Yet no matter how high he climbs, or how deeply he falls in love, Alexandros' life is still bound to the will of another. When Crassus becomes blinded by revenge, the fates of both owner and owned become slaves to a terrible choice. A choice which will threaten the very life of the empire one has ruled, and the other has been forced to serve.

The novels are available in both ebook and trade paperback editions from amazon.com.
