Australian Storms Impact Global Coking Coal Markets

Coking coal markets globally have been hit by a swathe of Force Majeure declarations from Australian coking coal suppliers as the effects of storm damage left by ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald takes its toll.

Feb. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- While prices have not yet reacted wildly, it is unknown how the impact of shipment delays will play into the market with Asian buying interest strong. Attention is focusing on the upcoming monthly and quarterly contract negotiations in particular.

Will we see price hikes in the Australian market similar to those seen in 2011?

Can North American suppliers provide the Asian market economic alternatives, particularly in the lower quality met coals?

Answers to these questions and more are likely to be found at the Pacific Basin Coal Conference with many of the coking coal industry’s major players participating.

Speakers include Shinichi Fujiwara of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal U.S.A., Bob Bell of Teck Resources Limited, Seamus French of Anglo American Metallurgical Coal Pty Ltd, Paul Vining of Alpha Natural Resources, and Ernie Thrasher of Xcoal Energy & Resources -- a who's who of the global met coal industry.

This is a not-to-be-missed event and will be held 24-26 February 2013 at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Waikiki Beach.
