Feb. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Starting today, you don’t need a password to log in to Stack Overflow ever again. We’ve set Clef (http://clef.io/) up as an identity provider for OpenID, which means that now you can log in to sites like Stack Exchange and LiveJournal with your smartphone. This is one big step towards eliminating passwords on the Internet- making accessing your identity safer and much easier.

If you already have an account with Stack Exchange (or any of the sites like Stack Overflow), adding Clef as a method to login takes a few easy steps. First you need to log in to your account like you normally would and click on your profile name in the top bar.  Find and click the “my logins” link at the top right, then the “add more logins” at the bottom of the form that pops up. Finally, click “more OpenID options” and type “clef.io” into the bar. Scan the code that shows up with the Clef app and you’re all set. (you should delete your other ‘authorized accounts’ to get the benefits of Clef’s increased security).

You can also check out our video walkthroughs (https://clef.io/openid/tutorials) if you need more help.

Whenever you return to a Stack Exchange site, or if you’re just setting up an account for the first time, type “clef.io” in the OpenID field, and scan the code.

Clef is a single sign on solution, so once you’ve signed in to one site that uses Clef, it only takes one click to log in anywhere else. The more sites that use Clef, the more passwords you can forget and the safer you’ll be. You can check out the list of sites using Clef (https://clef.io/websites), and if you don’t see a site you like, help us get the word out (https://clef.io/share).

We have a fantastic community that has given us a lot of invaluable feedback and support so far. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, we’re looking forward to making your logging in experience even better as we continue to grow.

Clef is available for both iPhone (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/clef/id558706348) and Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.clef) devices.
