Garden Gear launches new range of heritage seeds
Online retailer Garden Gear is aiming to bring the past to life with its new range of unusual heritage vegetable and flower seeds.
Twenty different varieties of individual seeds, plus a selection of box sets each containing packets of different flower, vegetable, herb or salad seeds, are now being sold on www.garden-gear.co.uk/
Garden Gear has teamed up with a well-known seed specialist to create the range, which has been carefully sourced from the unusual blooms and tasty produce popular with growers in days gone by.
Emma Darban, owner of Garden Gear (Online) Ltd said: “We wanted to bring the past to life and serve up a slice of old England which is becoming less and less well known over the years.
"Many of the heritage vegetable varieties have fantastic crop yield and flavour and we feel will add something a little different to the garden.”
In keeping with the seeds’ heritage roots, the recycled brown envelope packaging has been carefully designed with vintage Victorian line-illustrations, evocative period descriptions and growing instructions.
Some of the unusual varieties which have been resurrected include Lockies Perfection Cucumbers, Long Red Surrey Carrots, Courgette de Nice a Fruit Rond, large-leaved Lettuce Basil, and Thomas Eckford’s Sweet Pea mixture.
Also in production is a Garden Gear range of all-in-one growing kits using heritage chilli and tomato seeds which will produce unusual varieties and hampers containing seeds and useful gardening tools and equipment.
