Feb. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- A recently released report from technology research company Gartner has confirmed that PerkinElmer Inc. continues to be a leader in the Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) field achieving the highest ratings of the 34 ELN vendors included in the report.

The report, ‘Manufacturers Must Consider Scientific Domain Expertise During ELN Selection’ published January 11, 2013, recognizes the critical importance of selecting an ELN vendor that can deliver the highest levels of domain specific functionality to ensure that the solution is tightly aligned with an organization’s scientific and business objectives.

PerkinElmer's Ensemble® ELN platform achieved the highest ratings scores of “High” or “Very High” in all six scientific and functional domain categories (Biology, Chemistry, Formulation, Engineering, GxP and Translational Medicine). According to the report, the “High” ratings demonstrate “an ability to deliver deep functionality with out of the box solutions that are specific to the industry domain” while the “Very High” scores achieved by PerkinElmer Inc. in the Chemistry and GxP domains reflect that “the vendor has excellent scientific domain capabilities and is approaching the "de facto" standard”.

Michael Stapleton, General Manager of PerkinElmer Informatics was particularly gratified to see the report acknowledge that PerkinElmer “has the largest number of users in the ELN community, as well as some of the largest deployments in industry” together with the “widest global representation and the most active user group within the ELN community” with other vendors “playing catch up."

We are particularly pleased that while our ELN solutions are hailed as “highly functional, the real value is in the integration of data into the larger enterprise informatics technologies” which supports the strategy we have been pursuing in response to our customers’ feedback to us.

In addition we were highlighted for being “particularly strong in chemistry domains” and having a “superior capability for analytical instrumentation integration”, a tribute to the expertise that PerkinElmer obtained through the acquisitions of CambridgeSoft and Labtronics in 2011.

While we are not the only company in the report that has achieved some of our growth through acquisitions, we have established a strong product brand with the Ensemble® platform and avoided the “confusion from the flurry of new offerings, brands and interconnections” that Gartner’s clients have reported. Critically, we have also avoided the “integration and architecture complexities, often resulting in deep customization” and “extensive configuration” that have affected some of the other ELN providers.

With the addition and integration of the TIBCO Spotfire® software platform into the Ensemble® portfolio, scientists now have direct access to state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization tools to reveal new insights from the data in their ELN - quickly identifying new relationships, isolating significant outliers and easily spotting trends and patterns.
