Feb. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Lt. Governor Joseph Garcia’s visit to Carmel Middle School on February 7, 2013 is to recognize and witness first hand a rigorous age appropriate Physics curriculum written by Dr. Anatoliy Glushchenko, UCCS Physics Professor and Co-Founder of See The Change USA, in a middle school that serves many at-risk, minorities, and low income household students. Currently, Physics as a separate discipline is being implemented in Carmel Middle School (Harrison School District 2) for all students in grades 6, 7, and 8 for the first time in our region.
The success of this curriculum goes in large part to the outstanding Harrison School District 2 Leadership and the Carmel Middle School Team lead by Principal Ted Knight and the Physics Department Teachers. Because of their leadership, vision, courage and support 430 students are in play and they are excited. They are thriving, growing, showing results not only in Physics, but Math and Language Arts as well. The tour will illustrate the program, success and teacher development that make this program applicable for any school in our region and in the United States.
This could be one of the most critical paths for enhancing our economic vitality in the pursuit of new employers and jobs. The strategic outcome we seek is to reestablish our competitive advantage on the international stage in the organic production of engineers and other science-based disciplines.
See The Change USA was founded in August 2012 and is a national educational and charitable non-profit organization committed to student advancement in Science and Engineering. This is accomplished through introducing physics, chemistry and computer programming in middle schools, paralleling what is already in existence internationally. See The Change USA has applied to the IRS for tax exempt status as a 501 (C) 3 organization.
