New technology for PACS, IT and MDT managers in healthcare

We asked leading brand manufacturers such as NEC, PeerCare and Polycom for details of how their equipment was being used in hospitals, dental surgeries and clinics. These features and case studys feature in free online publication Teaching Technology

Feb. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Launch of Teaching Technology for Healthcare, a free online magazine for health care workers. The idea is simple. We ask leading brand manufacturers how their new AV (audio visual) technology helps medical practitioners to better care for their patients.

And we gained some great ideas and inspiration. We discovered DICOM monitors ready for the PACS roll out in 2013. "For example, if I were a nervous patient discussing the results of my x-ray or CT scan with my doctor, I'd want the reassurance that he/she was seeing the highest level of image quality with full DICOM Part 14 compliance. I'd hate to think that radiology had been 'last in the line' to get the older monitors", revealed editor Linda Adams.

"And we not only talked to hospitals and manufacturers, but to vets too. We found that one Wolverhampton veterinary practice could have saved themselves £13,000 had they discovered one product earlier."

There are many success stories, ranging from how interactive whiteboards are being used in simulated hospital wards at one medical school, to how two NHS hospitals are using video conferencing. One, which serves a large urban and rural geographical area, found it saved time and cut carbon; another one used this technology to access consultants at home in 'out-of-hours', resulting in quicker diagnosis and saving lives. Two marvellous goals.

The seed of an idea for Teaching Technology magazine came about two years ago, when Wedgwood's education customers wanted to use new ICT and audio visual technology in their schools but didn't always understand how it would best help them teach in their daily lives in the classroom.

"Teachers, for example, would be so busy marking work they wouldn't perhaps know that new ICT technology exists that does all the marking and reporting for them instantly, leaving them to do what they do best - teach", reveals editor Linda Adams, an ex-teacher.

And so the idea for Teaching Technology for Education was born and became a reality in January 2011.

Following on from this success, it was decided to extend the idea into healthcare. "What an inspirational journey into the medical world this has been", revealed editor Linda Adams, who started her career working in an RNID care home.
