Feb. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, Ga—The demand for academic help outside the classroom is proving strong for one education center specializing in helping students diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and other learning disabilities  A year ago, Academics Plus offered only private, individualized cognitive and educational therapy to students.  Today, the center now staffs cognitive therapists in schools, providing an alternative day school solution for students who are unable to keep up in the classroom or have been denied acceptance into regular school settings.

Having already worked with well over a dozen of schools in the Atlanta area, Academics Plus recently celebrated its latest partnership with Cumberland Academy, a school primarily for students on the ASD spectrum.  Each morning before school, two of the center’s highly-trained staff works closely on campus with 15 of the school’s students.  These students utilize the center’s cutting-edge Brainjogging program for the first 10-15 minutes followed by cognitive and educational therapy for the last 45 minutes.

“Academics Plus is not a tutoring facility and does not tutor children in a specific academic area.  We focus on the root of the problem and work to improve cognitive performance,” stated Katie Cyphers, the executive director for Academics Plus.  “We believe that once the cognitive processes are primed, the academic abilities will improve as well.”

As a licensed provider of the Brainjogging program, Academics Plus offers a unique teaching environment to foster the learning needs of students of all ages and levels.  The computer-based program utilizes a series of eye movement exercises, rapid automatic naming, and speed and auditory processing to strengthen neural connections of the brain.   One study has even shown that after twelve weeks on the program, students increased their reading scores by two grade levels.

“We could not be more proud of the results we have already produced and the major gains our students have made.  Our team recognizes that our approach is totally different than any other, and it works!  We love seeing new test scores come back higher, hearing teachers sing praises and being thanked by parents for changing their children’s lives,” stated Cyphers.  “Research proves that the brain has the ability to change.  Academics Plus believes in nueroplasticity and the ability to create new neurons in the brain.”

Over the course of a year, Academics Plus has grown from a very small practice to a highly recommended business with proven results.  “Many of our students drive as far away as 30 to 40 miles to receive our services,” stated Cyphers.   For the center’s employees, helping students in the community improve their learning ability is more than just a job—it’s a pleasure they each personally take pride in.
