This international cyclo-cross event attracts elite cyclo-cross athletes from all over the world including Belgium, Canada, France, Germany and Switzerland.

This is the first time in the event’s more than 50 year history that the Cyclocross World Championships have been held in a location outside of Europe. This year the Cyclocross World Championships are taking place in Louisville, Kentucky, from January 29 through February 3, 2013.  The 2013 Masters Cyclocross World Championships will be held at Louisville’s Champions Park and the 2013 UCI Elite Cyclocross World Championships are taking place at Louisville’s Eva Bandman park. Both locations are off downtown Louisville’s River Road within walking distance of one another.

A graduate from the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, Dr. Grossfeld completed her medical training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  She also completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Center.  As a board certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician, Dr. Grossfeld has her own orthopedic and sports medicine practice, Orthopaedic Specialists PLLC, located at 4001 Kresge Way, Suite 330, in Louisville, Kentucky.

With a specialty in sports injuries and sports medicine, Dr. Grossfeld has experience giving top notch orthopedic care for high school and college sports teams including the women's soccer and women’s lacrosse teams at the University of Louisville, and sports teams at Indiana University Southeast.  Dr. Grossfeld also provides orthopedic services including orthopedic surgery to the Louisville Ballet Company.  For more, see: http://www.louisvillebones.com/grossfeld.htm

A dedicated athlete, herself, Dr. Grossfeld’s own experience with sports medicine also comes from her personal involvement in athletics. In her free time, she enjoys playing competitive tennis through the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Dr. Grossfeld also loves to ride her bike and, when she gets the chance, she enjoys traveling to northern Wisconsin to go cross-country skiing.

Cyclocross is a very challenging sport that combines the demands of bike racing with obstacles that at times require participants to ride and even carry their bikes over jumps, creeks, sand, steep hills, rocks, water, mud, snow, ice and very rough terrain.  Learn more about Dr. Grossfeld on her website www.louisvillebones.com.
