Jan. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Another accusation has been delivered in the aftermath of a boating misdirection in NYC.

Lawyers for a Wall Street employee, who remains unconscious in intensive care, submitted a $45 million suit against the ferry company, the Seastreak Wall Street. The boat had 326 passengers onboard when it crashed into a concrete slip while attempting to dock in Lower Manhattan.

Many other claims have also been submitted in federal court against the company on behalf of passengers injured in the accident.

Seastreak, however, just sought protection under maritime law that would restrict its liability in the collision to the amount of the ruined boat, which is estimated at $7.6 million. The company has also submitted an order that would consolidate all suits against the company to court.

Attorneys for those hurt seek to have the case decided by state law, arguing that the ship was not seaworthy at the time of the accident and the company knew it. They also want any maximum of burden, if accepted by the court, set at the value of every ship under Seastreak's command.

Attention will likely focus on modifications made to the vessel last summer to increase fuel economy and lower the cost of operation, and whether those changes led to the accident.

It is always tragic when individuals are injured through no fault of their own, whether that be in a boating, auto or work-related accident. The fact is those victims deserve to be properly compensated for their medical expenses and their losses. That’s where having a competent and experienced personal injury attorney is vital.
