Jan. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Phoenix, Ariz. (Jan. 29, 2013) – CEA Global Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Aurelie Hagstrom, who holds a doctorate of sacred theology, as the new Faculty Resident Director for the CEA/Providence College Center for Theology and Religious Studies during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Dr. Hagstrom will provide leadership and oversight for the Center’s academic and co-curricular programming. She will conduct research, teach core theology courses and lead cultural activities while serving as the Faculty Resident Director in Rome. Dr. Hagstrom’s academic expertise and research interests will strongly influence the Center for the 2013-2014 academic year.

As an Associate Professor of Theology and current Chair of Providence College’s Department of Theology, Dr. Hagstrom brings extensive classroom and instructional experience to her position at the Center. Outside of teaching, she has also served as a theological consultant for the United States Catholic Bishops’ Committee and has lectured across the U.S. and Europe on the theology of laity.

“Dr. Hagstrom is a perfect choice to serve as the new Faculty Resident Director for the CEA/Providence College Center for Theology and Religious Studies in the 2013-2014 year,” said Adrian G. Beaulieu, Ed.S., Dean of the Center for International Studies at Providence College. “She is very familiar with Rome and has led many student programs to the city over the years. Her areas of interest and expertise will complement the existing strengths of the Center, and contribute to its goals of academic excellence, independent research, faculty development and creating innovative career pathways for students. Thus, we look forward to our ongoing collaboration with CEA.”

The CEA/Providence College’s Center for Theology and Religious Studies curriculum focuses on theology and religion in Rome with an emphasis on Roman Catholicism. Students take two required courses – one theology and one Italian language course, additional theology and religious studies courses, and electives representing a number of disciplines, such as cultural studies, business and communications. Students also have the opportunity to participate in city site visits, and meet local experts from the Roman religious community.

Dr. Hagstrom holds her doctorate of sacred theology in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. Currently, her work is focused on the reality of ecclesial lay ministry in the Church. She recently led seminars on the U.S. Catholic Bishops’ document, “Co-Workers in the Vineyard: A Resource for Guiding the Development of Lay Ecclesial Ministry”, and also released her latest book, The Emerging Laity: Vocation, Mission, and Spirituality in 2010.
