Cucumber Based Natural Facial Toner Wins Top Sales Award in 2012 For Thai Natural Skincare Company

Established in 2011, Royal Siam was formed  with the purpose of bringing health and beauty products to the global market, based on the extensive knowledge into plant and herb based treatments formed over nearly a thousand years, forming the basis of Thai Traditional Medicine.

More than a third of the company’s product range of over 30 products is hand made using 100% natural ingredients, faithfully following the pre-industrial manufacturing process of the traditional medicine approach, which can be traced back close to a thousand years in modern day Thailand.

"The Thai Herbal Facial Toner is probably the least sophisticated of any of our products and it consists of just four ingredients" says the company's Managing Director and co-founder, David Christensen.

Mr Christensen explains the product contains nothing but the natural extracts of these four plants, with the process being undertaken no differently to what would have occurred several hundred years ago.

"The predominant ingredient is cucumber extract, which is cold pressed by hand from quality graded cucumbers, which are plentiful in Thailand and served with most Thai meals as cucumber is one of the few foods that counteracts chilli and other hot spices" he explains. He continues to outline the significance of the hand powered cold press extraction process. "Heating the donor material and using mechanized presses is much more efficient and can double the volume of liquid extracted from plant material, which is why this method is commonplace. But the heat does a lot of damage to the extract that cold pressing leaves intact, and simply squeezing more out may appear more cost efficient, but in fact we believe without doubt that 'less is more' and the traditional hand powered cold processed extract is many times more effective than the typical modern mechanized extraction processes allow."

The other ingredients are processed similarly - the Asian mulberry, willow bark extract commonly called witch hazel, and finally one quite special ingredient, genuine frankincense sourced from some of the oldest known plantations in modern day Oman. – most probably exactly the same area the Magi would have obtained the gift of frankincense to the baby Jesus.

The result is an all natural facial product that is both gentle and extremely powerful in correcting skin balance by treating both excessive oiliness and excessive dryness; deep Nd thorough cleansing of all natural and synthetic residues on the skin and closing the now cleansed pores prior to applying any other products.

"I have to confess when I first tried the product my reaction was this product would not appeal to most people because of its distinct cucumber smell - despite the fact this doesn't last and the product is extremely effective" says Mr Christensen.

"But then it started to become clear this was evidence of the product being genuine, and would be appreciated and seen as positive by our target market, which is exactly what has taken place."

Despite the product's simplicity and apparent lack of sophistication, the cucumber based facial toner was the clear stand-out  leading product in 2012 sales for the company both is terms of value and volume.

“What this has done is to reaffirm the consumer demand for quality and trustworthy natural products, and what it shows us is simplicity can be a very powerful attribute, and then having product features that are “true to label” (like the natural cucumber smell of the toner) is also seen as a positive attribute by consumers, and this reinforces the product as a genuine premium all natural face product” concludes Mr Christensen.
