Jan. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Mati City in Davao Oriental is a relatively new component city in the region but ever since its inception, it is already one of the prime beach destinations in Eastern Mindanao. Despite the fact that most infrastructure projects are still under planning stage, one can still enjoy this so called coconut capital of the East. A beauty incomparable to any beaches in Palawan, Boracay or Mindoro; Mati’s pure and regal beaches are the sure next big thing when it comes to tourism.

Travel to Mati

By land, this haven is reachable via the Madaum diversion road in Tagum which will usually take you 3 to 4 hours on a private vehicle. The local airport named after the first lady of the late President Marcos, also the lone airport of the province is solely utilized by the government.  Davao City’s Francisco Bangoy International airport is the only commercial airport servicing the entire region so most travelers outside this region really have to pass through this city first.

Prime Destination for Resorts

The Pacific Ocean covers entirely the eastern and southernmost tips of this wonderful city, so much that resorts just appear after another; marking new developments as tourism is on the rise in the capital of the region. If you are on a Mati beach escapade, two prime destinations are Badas and Dahican because these places already have a number of commercial resorts. Both places are reachable via boats, Dahican is 15 minutes away while Badas is 25 minutes.

Keeping the record straight, since the city government is still trying all their best to promote local spots for tourists, most areas still need time to be commercialized. Pujada, the city’s ecological jewel, is the spot for new projects since in here sits a natural wonder most locals call the sleeping Dinosaur. Pujada Bay is a haven for marine life; most Matinians even commemorates annual festivals in honor of the protection and promotion of this area. Back at the most famous tourist spot in Mati which is Dahican, the Guang Guang Mangrove Park is situated, a home to tons of marine biodiversity and 18 rare mangrove species. Resorts in Mati are concentrated on one area so going island hopping can be a good choice to try other places like Botona beach resort, the pristine sleeping dinosaur island and Jambay.

Some Places Else

If you have decided to stay downtown, various names such as Hotel Beatrice, Baywalk Hotel, Mati Citi Lodge and Casa Rosa are available for guests here and abroad. Do not worry for your big appetite because you can still taste some of the best dishes through various restaurants that fill the streets of Mati, walk or ride tricycles to find one that suits you and your taste buddies. Mount Hamiguitan Sanctuary is the perfect alternative for those wanting to experience not just Mati’s beaches but wildlife as well.
