Jan. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- WHAT:  SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business will exhibit at the 2013 edition of the MotorCity Automotive Industry Night (MAIN) Event, once again taking place on the eve of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). SABIC has supported this exclusive design showcase and celebration of industry excellence and innovation since its inception in 2011. This year, the company will highlight its advanced thermoplastic materials for automotive glazing and lighting components. Both application areas are of great interest to automakers as they strive to improve fuel economy and lower emissions through weight reduction, differentiate through enhanced aesthetics and meet evolving technology demands. SABIC’s advanced materials are helping the industry keep pace with regulatory requirements and consumer preferences.

Automotive glazing components on display will include the rear fixed window of Fiat’s new 500L multi-purpose vehicle, already available in Europe and expected to launch this year in the United States. The Fiat 500L window is molded from SABIC’s LEXAN™ polycarbonate resin, which enables weight savings of 35 percent compared to glass. SABIC’s exhibit will also highlight materials for automotive lighting applications, including LEXAN and ULTEM™ resins. The company’s resins are used in a diverse range of lighting applications, from standard fog lamps to state-of-the-art light emitting diode (LED) designs.
