Jan. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- (Hainesport, NJ) Powder Technologies, Inc., (PTI) exclusive distributor of Ystral powder and liquid processing systems throughout North America, offers the TDS-Dispermix, TDS Induction Mixer and Conti-TDS solutions to the dust and costly agglomerate waste normally associated with the induction of highly dispersed fumed silicas such as Aerosil, Cab-O-Sil, and HDK. Due to its very light nature, silica dust can easily escape into the work environment during product transfer, leading to product waste and potential environmental hazards if inhaled in combination with solvent vapors. In addition, silica faces liquid surface binding problems requiring more product to achieve thixotropic results, and often forms agglomerate crusts on the sides of the mixing vessels resulting in costly product waste.

The Ystral TDS systems prevent these issues by inducting via vacuum in a shear dispersing zone. This results in dust- and loss-free induction into the liquid, complete wetting and dispersion – all via the same machine. Because the powder is inducted into the liquid directly – it is not exposed to the solvent vapor and potential binding risks, resulting in 100% of the product being used to build up the required thixotropy.

The TDS-Induction Mixer and TDS-Dispermix are machines installed inside a vessel that create a vacuum in their mixing head and induct and mix under the liquid surface. They are limited to low viscous liquids (max. 1000 mPas) and have a reduced or medium shearing effect.

The Conti-TDS is an external inline machine. It is not dependent on the size of the vessel or viscosity and can be connected easily to any existing vessel. The high shear provided by the Conti-TDS also causes a much higher efficiency and an agglomerate-free dispersion. Induction under its shear increases the liquid surface some million times – placing it in the same range as the surface of the silica powder so that the powder isinducted directly into the liquid and is immediately wetted and dispersed. (One gram of Aerosil 200 has a surface of 200 m².) Agglomerates are eliminated and the viscosity of the silica suspension produced is higher when compared to the suspension produced with conventional methods. As a result, the powder concentration is reduced to achieve the desired end product.
