Jan. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Ever wonder what to do when you attend an incredibly exciting gala affair and the music is great, but your shoes are too cute to dance in? The answer is simple, “kick them off and get to dancin’!” That is what you will have to do on February 15, 2013 at the Cotton Club Refined Gala affair. Held at the Albuquerque Convention Center and sponsored in part by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico, this event kicks off at 7:00 and promises to be the gala affair of the year.

Multi-platinum, award-winning artist Cece Peniston will supply the after dinner entertainment with a little help from New Mexico's own Cotton Club orchestra. Other special appearances will be made by Nikki Stanzione, KASA Fox 2 New Mexico Style Host, Davonda Bowens, and others.

The Divine 9 Panhellenic Council and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are the primary sponsors for the Cotton Club Refined Gala (http://nmblackhistorymonth.com/index.php/rhythms-and-quisine-weekend/cotton-club-gala) and the purpose is to promote tourism and to encourage people to experience the essence of Albuquerque. Florence Bowers, Chair of the 2013 Cotton Club Refined says, “We want people to take a nice, enjoyable ‘stay-cation’ right here in Albuquerque. A ‘stay-cation’ is like a vacation, except residents of Albuquerque stay here, rather than leaving the city for their family getaway.”

This gala is heralded as the finest, refined event this side of the Mississippi. According to Bowers, “The thing that I love the most about this event is that it is truly multicultural. I am just looking forward to having even more people come from around the entire state this year to "staycate" with us over the Valentine's Day, President's Day weekend.”

Tickets to the gala are $25. The New Mexico Black History Month Festival encourages all New Mexicans to learn about the contributions that African-Americans have made to the state and to the nation throughout the years. More information about dates and times of the Black History Month Festival events are located on the New Mexico Black History Month website: http://www.nmblackhistorymonth.com.
