VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) to be offered in Spanish
Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (co-sponsored by Christian Brothers University and the United Way of the Mid-South) will host two free VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance) events for Spanish speaking tax payers at two local parishes.
The first VITA event will be held on Sunday afternoon February 10th from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection in the Hickory Hill area of southeast Memphis. The second event will be held on Sunday February 24, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Ascension in Raleigh.
Trained, volunteer tax preparers will be on site along with Spanish to English speaking interpreters to assist in tax preparation. Potential tax payers are encouraged to visit www.ccwtn.org for a list materials that they will need to bring to have their taxes prepared and other information.
The VITA Program generally offers free tax help to people who make $51,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
