Eyes Members Are The New Weapon To Thwart Rising Retail Crime

Jan. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- “Why should we pay more whilst others pay nothing” is a phrase often used by Tony Morgan, the Founder and MD of Internet Eyes. “Whilst families have budgeted, worked that extra shift and have even held down second jobs, why is it that we accept shoplifting as a petty crime? What’s more, this has a profound effect on our community retailers. I passionately believe that we can all make a difference to stamp out this criminal activity and this was my goal when launching Internet Eyes”

This sentiment is mirrored by Daniel Wilson, who operates 5 Nisa Local premises in Scarborough, who has recently had the Internet Eyes system installed.

“Shrinkage is an obvious concern for all retailers. If £10 of stock is taken from our shelves we actually have to earn £10 of profit to balance our bottom line. In the long run if this continues then it's going to result in higher prices for all our other customers.  Having the Internet Eyes system  has assisted our staff in capturing a number of shoplifters with video evidence of their crimes, which has aided in their arrest."

Internet Eyes utilises the desire of members of the public to assist in reducing crime by monitoring privately owned CCTV footage from retail premises. The instant they spot an incident they can send an alert to staff in real time with the opportunity of being rewarded up to £250 each month for their vigilance. With over 8000 activated members spread throughout the EU, Internet Eyes captured the Big Society spirit wanting to make a difference.

Although a proven loss prevention solution, in Mr Morgan’s words “the system could have been more efficient, and that is why I am now proud to announce the launch of our new website http://www.interneteyes.co.uk which includes our Instant Playback feature. Instant Playback allows in-store staff to review the alerts sent by Internet Eyes members’ immediately prior to the observed incident. This footage can be accessed from any smartphone, tablet and PC.

With the re-launch of this new technological development Tony Morgan is even more confident that the video evidence of the incidents will prove beyond doubt that Internet Eyes can and does help to detect and deter crime, so reducing the burden on families across the UK whilst supporting our community and high street retailers.
