Jan. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- A research paper entitled “Mobile-Phone Antenna Design” co-authored by Mr Corbett Rowell, R&D Director of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), ranked 25th in IEEE Xplore downloads two months after it was published in the August 2012 issue of Antennas and Propagation Magazine, a professional bimonthly journal by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

IEEE Xplore is an online digital library providing web access at a fee for pertinent academic researchers and industry experts around the globe to more than three million full-text journal papers, conference proceedings, technical standards, etc. from some of the world's most highly cited publications in electrical engineering, computer science and electronics. About 25,000 new documents are added each month. Mr Rowell’s paper stands out from the rest in terms of popularity, suggesting that it is one of the most important research outputs in the field.

Co-written by Dr Edmund Y. Lam, Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Hong Kong University, the paper summarizes the antenna design parameters as a function of handset performance, and presents a short summary of design procedure. It surveys internal antennas in various kinds of handsets, and discusses different types of mobile-phone antennas, feeding structures, active antennas, isolation, and antenna loading techniques.

ASTRI’s CEO Dr Cheung Nim-kwan is pleased to learn about the accomplishment of Mr Rowell. He said, “ASTRI researchers have been active in publishing research papers and technical memoranda in world renowned journals or as proceedings of important conferences. This is an important mode of knowledge transfer by ASTRI. Mr Rowell’s effort is exemplary.”

Mr Rowell leads the antenna & digital-RF research teams at ASTRI and oversees the ASTRI Antenna R&D Centre, which offers a wide range of antenna design and measurement services from advanced measurement to complete designs. He has 30 granted patents and 21 publications with over 1,000 citations in innovative antenna and RF technology."

Abstract of Mr Rowell’s paper “Mobile-Phone Antenna Design” is available at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?arnumber=6309152.
