Jan. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Los Angeles An online news source for Latina women in Southern California announces the launch of  #LatinaGeeks (http://latinageeks.com/). Co-founders LaLa Castro and Tanya Salcido came together to build a Latina empowered geek movement. Both co-founders realized that while there were many diverse resources for Latinos online, there lacked an online space where Latin women could collaborate and feel proud of their geeky passions.

The #LatinaGeeks website is designed to support their community and will feature Latina geeks world-wide. The site will be written in English with a splash of Spanglish, sass, humor and will be geared for Latinas ages 18-55+. The #LatinaGeeks Facebook community (https://www.facebook.com/latinageeks) has already been embraced by Latinas commending co-founders for creating an online space where they can speak freely about the newest gadget at Fry's Electronics, as well as hitting the latest Macy's Sale. In addition, the site will review the latest gadgets, mobile applications, social technology and local tech-startups that women could apply to their daily lives or business. #LatinaGeeks also invites the community to get involved with the movement (https://www.facebook.com/latinageeks/app_259304127505844), whether by participating in conversations online, suggesting sponsors or participating as a guest blogger. News and suggestions (https://www.facebook.com/latinageeks/app_259304127505844) can also be submitted via their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/latinageeks) and/or website.

“Every Latina has some level of geekiness within,” says Tanya Salcido, co-founder of #LatinaGeeks. She continues to say, “Whether they are a mobile application geek, a math geek or a gaming geek, it’s time for Latinas to take pride in their passion. The term geek no longer has a negative connotation associated with it; It’s sexy and powerful.”

When asked about competition online, Salcido comments, “We pride ourselves on being the only online source managed by Latina geeks for Latina geeks. We understand technology, social media, women’s needs and challenges at home and business.  We will not only encourage Latinas to embrace their passions, but we will provide education and resources where they can pursue their dreams.”

Both co-founders have been involved with digital marketing for the past decade. Backgrounds include eCommerce, traditional and digital marketing, traditional branding and digital branding, blogger outreach and online community building. Both are passionate Latin women entrepreneurs.

“More Latinas need to embrace their geeky passions and together we can make them believers to become an entrepreneur and/or successful business owners,” said LaLa Castro, co-founder of #LatinaGeeks. She goes on to say, “ We have a unique advantage over the other Latino communities online. We live and breath our geeky lifestyle and take pride in understanding how important it is to encourage more women to follow their dreams.  We need more Latinas to embrace technology as it has already become a part of our daily lives with our families and careers.  Imagine how much more they can accomplish in business or even at home if they embraced more tech knowledge.  It’s never too late to learn or teach, no matter how limited your education resources are, today we have the internet.”
