Jan. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- ORLANDO — David North, the president and CEO of Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., will be the industry keynote speaker at the 68th annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC) this summer in Orlando.

Attendance at the August 18 - 21, 2013, event at the Orlando World Center Marriott is expected to top 8,000, drawing participants from across the nation and a number of foreign countries.

In his keynote address, North will discuss the opportunities and challenges of today’s workers’ compensation market, and how the political and economic climates are affecting the industry.

North is well suited to the task. Under his leadership, Sedgwick has grown to become the largest third party administrator TPA in the industry. A frequent speaker at national and regional industry conferences, North has over 32 years of experience in risk management services. He developed and taught the American Management Association course on Advanced Risk Management Strategies: Managing the Total Cost of Risk. In 2002, he was recognized by Business Insurance as one of the 35 “Rising Stars” in insurance worldwide. In 2003, he co-authored the book “The Art of Self-Insurance.” He has served on the board of the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute and is past chairman of the board of the Integrated Benefits Institute.

“We are delighted to have someone of Mr. North’s experience and reputation as our keynote speaker,” says WCEC Program Chair Steve Rissman. “His appearance is reflective of the national scope that our convention presents, and the importance that we place on presenting programs of significance from prominent industry leaders.”

The conference—recently expanded to four days to accommodate the several hundred speakers presenting discipline-specific programs—is the largest gathering of its kind in the nation. In addition to North’s keynote address, there are program tracks for employers, risk managers, brokers, adjusters, judges, lawyers, state administrators, safety professionals, nurses, doctors, representatives from the PEO and temporary employment industry, Medicare specialists, mediators, social security experts and Longshore specialists. Attendees can earn CEUs from numerous disciplines, and more than 300 exhibitors will be on hand to present information on their products and services.
