Follow on Google News | Dearne Valley College Students Donate Event Proceeds to ‘Help For Heroes’ CharityTravel and Tourism Students at DVC are celebrating, having donated £364 to the 'Help For Heroes' Charity, following a successful fundraising event.
The students organised the evening as part of their overall assessment, dedicating their efforts to the popular charity that provides facilities for, and supports, British servicemen and women. The evening consisted of live music, activities, a DJ and even a fashion show, with a number of fundraising raffle events taking place, and attendees also received a treat of pie and peas within their ticket price. The students encountered a number of setbacks and cancellations, but with last minute planning the students successfully filled the spots to deliver an exceptional evening. One of the students involved in the organisation of the event, Kaydie Gwiazda, said “The event ran smoothly on the night and really demonstrated the advantages of working together as a team and having the communication in place to provide a successful event.” “We chose the charity ‘Help For Heroes’ because it is close to many people’s hearts, and we were pleased to not only reach our target of £300, but to exceed it". A fitting tribute was delivered by Dearne Valley College tutor and TA soldier, Paul Meares, who drew the raffle and announced the prize winners, followed by a speech of thanks to the students who organised the evening. Also speaking about the event, tutor and staff member overseeing the students’ organisation and management skills, Lisa Bramley, said “The evening went really well. The students worked brilliantly together and everything on the night ran smoothly. It was a successful night of fun and showcasing a whole host of local talents and enterprises, while raising a good sum of money”. End
