Motivation Monday for January 14, 2013 ~ What Inspires and Motivates You?

We are in the second week of 2013 and many people have already stopped trying to accomplish their New Year's Resolutions and most people did not or have not established personal goals for 2013. Why? Do you need to be inspired?

Jan. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- It’s the second week of 2013. Many people have already given up on their New Year’s Resolutions and statistically speaking, 85 % of people that set New Year’s Resolutions will stop following them by the end of January.  Is that you?

Did you have “New Year’s Resolutions” or did you establish personal goals for yourself?

Some people actually give the ridiculous answer that they don’t create goals or New Year’s Resolutions because they know they aren’t going to follow through with them!  Nothing like convincing yourself of failure before you start.  It’s a good thing that Edison or Einstein or Steve Jobs didn’t have that mentality.

After years of conducting programs and speaking and reading about people, my sense is that many people don’t actually know what “inspires” them or “motivates” them.  Yes, many people will say “money” motivates them, but frankly, that’s not enough.  There are people that are motivated to make money, but then their sole focus in life is work and the accumulation of money.  Everything has $$$ connected to it.  Is that life?  Is that all life is about?  You’ve heard of the great line from a Frank Sinatra song, “the best things in life are free,” haven’t you?

I created National Motivation & Inspiration Day©, because there is a difference between being “motivated” and “inspired.”   I think more people want and need to feel “inspired” and live an inspired life, because that is the excitement, the energy, the passion that is ignited inside someone that can be the driving force for change.  When people are “inspired” it is different. Many people are inspired by God or by their faith.  There is a belief or a spirit that is uplifting.  It is a “higher calling” rather than the something as crude as making money.

Don’t get me wrong.  Money is important and we are indebted to the generosity of those people that are true philanthropists that build schools, wings of hospitals and many special projects and needs for our communities.  If it weren’t for those people, where would we be?  However, we all know the difference of those that are “motivated” by recognition and visibility for their “philanthropy” and genuine philanthropists.  Some actually project themselves to be “philanthropists” as a title.  Oh, I am President of some company …and a philanthropist!  A true “philanthropist” doesn’t where it on their sleeve and give you a business card with it written on it! We all know their motivation.

When was the last time you were “inspired?”  Uplifted to believe that there is something more, that you can be or do something more than you are currently doing or contributing to the world?

Motivation Mondays© are intended to motivate and inspire you. To plant seeds of thought that might germinate into activities that will change our communities and the world.  The motto of Motivate America is “take action to make things happen!©”  I believe that unless you take action toward the dreams and goals you have set for yourself, then it is just a wish list.  It’s just a list of things that might happen, opposed to things you are going to make happen.

Frankly, there are now a ridiculous amount of “motivational speakers” and “coaches.” Most are recycling and regurgitating the same things that everyone else is saying or has been said for thousands of years.  However, I recently came across a “motivational speaker” that is different than everyone else.  I saw one of his presentations several years ago and it made me cry.  I saw a story about him again this past weekend and it made me well up with tears once again. This is a genuine story of inspiration about a man that literally has overcome all odds to become a success.

Please, check out this Youtube video and watch the suggested video of Nick Vujicic.  You will be inspired!  The question becomes, what will you do with it?
