“Laying Souls to Rest in Vietnam” on January 15 “Why Shamanism Now?” with Christina Pratt
On "Why Shamanism Now?”, Christina Pratt talks to Dr. Edward Tick of Hanoi-based Soldier’s Heart and other guests from Vietnam about using shamanic practices to assist with healing of both the living and the departed after the Vietnman War.
In this episode of “Why Shamanism Now?” titled “Laying Souls to Rest in Vietnam,” Pratt welcomes Haoi, Dr. Edward Tick and other Vietnamese guests. Dr. Tick, the author of War and The Soul, rediscovered the archetypal path necessary to heal the unique wounding of war by working effectively and deeply with traditional shamanic practices in the indigenous cultures of Greece, Native North America and Viet Nam. Through his non-profit organization, Soldier’s Heart, Dr. Tick uses psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and international reconciliation practices to bring healing to veterans, communities and nations recovering from the traumas of war.
The show’s guests from Vietnam talk to Pratt as part of a series of “Why Shamanism Now?” interviews sponsored by the Society of Shamanic Practitioners (SSP). Throughout this series, Pratt explores how contemporary shamans are meeting the challenge of their world where the relations of things—the living and the dead, the humans and nature, and the technological world and the spirit world—are profoundly out of balance. It is the ancient role of the shaman in all cultures to tend the balance of things, and the question is asked: how are these shamans meeting this extraordinary need today?
