With 228 books to his credit, Morris’ new Water Wheel Novel series reflects his fascination with the role that the Mississippi played in the growth of the country. His sales are seven million books worldwide.
Morris explains, “As a boy, I was fascinated by the paddle wheeled steamships that were still in service. I would go to the docks and watch as the steamboats ferried cars across the river. Later I became interested in books that describe the crafts and the vital part they played in our history.”
The Water Wheel series is set in 1850 and is a generational saga that begins with a penniless immigrant from England who ultimately founds a dynasty based on steamboats.
Though Morris did not write his first novel until age 50, he says he has no plans to retire now. “I love to write and try to make each book a work that will give glory to Jesus Christ. Over the past twenty years, I have written on average one book a month!” he says.
Asked about his creative process, Morris is committed to making “sure that the history is accurate, that there is romance, and that in each book, someone is converted, and wins a victory in one of the struggles that Christians face.”
