Basic Mediation Training is required before mediating at Northwest Mediation.  This training will give you the skills and information necessary to mediate, as well as the forms and tools to develop your own mediation style.  This course is a prerequisite for mediating at the local court, for entrance into most Dispute Resolution associations, and advanced mediation trainings. This course has been approved for 40 hours of basic mediation training. The fee for this training is $545 if registered by March 8, 2013. The fee will be $595 after March 8. Group and non-profit discounts are available upon request.

Trainers:  Dr. Clare Fowler, M.D.R.

Clare Fowler, Founder of Fowler Mediation, has a workplace mediation practice and is the Managing Editor of Mediate.com.

Her undergraduate degrees were in communication and French from Gonzaga University (Go Zags!) and LaSorbonne, France.

She received her Master's of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

She also has completed her Doctoral Dissertation in Small Business Conflict from Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Fowler conducted her mediation practicum at Northwest Mediation (formerly called Inland Mediation Center). She was introduced to mediation in her elementary school's peer mediation program and has been interested since. She has worked as co-mediator at the Supreme Court of Hawaii's Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, the Mediation Career Development at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Adjunct Professor of Mediation at the University of Oregon Conflict Resolution Center, and Managing Editor at Mediate.com.  She is a regular conference presenter and has conducted mediation trainings for a variety of participants.

Clare tried a variety of mediation fields (legal, corporate, international, and family) before settling into her current workplace practice.  She is eager to share this experience.  

In this training, participants will spend the first four days immersed in mini-teachings about each element of the process.  They will create their own forms, statements, ground rules, and process styles--and practice each step repeatedly. The training will be supported by review documents, worksheets, examples of each step, and media clips.  The fifth day will cover difficult situations and questions, and end in a large group role-play with everyone assisting each other in discovering the best way to move through different situations.
