Jan. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Leading retailer John Lewis Partnership has agreed a five-year deal with Energy Assets, the UK’s top independent gas metering company, to help reduce carbon emissions.

The agreement covers Automated Meter Reading (AMR) services, which enable the John Lewis Partnership to identify instantly how much gas is being used at a particular location while providing the company with the tools to identify ways to cut back on energy usage and ensure no unnecessary gas wastage. For the retailer it helps them meet carbon targets and cut back on utility spending.

The deal follows on from a previous five year contract that saw Energy Assets supply more than 293 John Lewis and Waitrose stores with its AMR technology.

A spokesperson for John Lewis explained: “Managing and reducing our energy use is a key part of ensuring we are a responsible and sustainable business. Smart metering provides an effective means of helping us to do this.”

AMR involves installing data loggers which automatically transmit daily gas consumption to a central data management system. The Energy Assets AMR solution has been recognised as a key tool when it comes to assisting companies to reduce their carbon emissions and remain within government energy efficiency and sustainability targets.

Energy Assets CEO Phil Bellamy-Lee said: “We’re delighted the John Lewis Partnership has agreed to sign another five-year deal with Energy Assets. Their on-going commitment to our company and our AMR metering services is a validation that we are helping them meet their carbon commitments today and into the foreseeable future.”

The John Lewis Partnership is the latest in a line of leading retailers and commercial companies who have renewed AMR gas metering contracts with Energy Assets within the past few months. Others have included Costco and ADT Fire and Security. Public sector contract renewals have also been agreed with a number of major outlets including the Metropolitan Police, Thames Water plc and Blackpool Borough Council.
