Resident of The Buckingham Celebrates Turning 100 with an Old-Fashioned Texas Barbeque

Jan. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Buckingham senior living community recently hosted a reception and old-fashioned Texas barbeque to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Mr. Willard (Penny) Pennington. Several hundred residents, family and friends gathered to celebrate a very special birthday of a very special man. As a special treat, a group of World War II veterans that Pennington meets with every Saturday at McDonald’s attended the celebration.

“It was such a treat to celebrate this special birthday with Mr. Pennington,” said Cathy Lightfoot, director of sales and marketing at The Buckingham.  “He gave the advice to always tell the truth no matter how hard it seems. Good words from a man who has lived a long and fulfilling life. And is still going strong!”

Julie Fenske, executive director of The Buckingham, gave a toast on behalf of all, and another staff member sang some of his favorite songs. Pennington’s family provided a dozen cardboard cutouts depicting 100 years of history making events that have occurred during Pennington’s lifetime. It was a perfect way to celebrate the birthday of a very special man.
