UFC Championship Fight Comes to Chicago’s United Center
This coming January, Chicagoans will have the opportunity to attend the Ultimate Fighting Championship Flyweight Bout
Johnson, the defending title-holder, won his last three fights, including defeating Joseph Benavidez in September to earn the inaugural UFC flyweight championship title. The contending Dodson won a TKO victory against Jussier Formiga a month later to earn a shot at the title.
The evening will include six other exciting fights, three of which will feature Chicago –based UFC star contenders. The lineup leading to the main fight between Johnson and Dodson is as follows:
Lightweight match between T.J. Grant and Matt Wiman
Chicago police officer Mike Russow takes on Shawn Jordan in a heavyweight bout.
Chicago’s Clay Guidea will make his featherweight debut versus star Japanese contender Hatsu Hioki.
A featherweight fight that could result in a title shot for the winner between Elmhurst college graduate and Chicago native Ricardo Lamas and fellow featherweight star Erik Koch.
Anthony Pettis - WEC lightweight champion hailing from Milwaukee - meets up with Donald Cerrone
The evening’s co-main event matchup features former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on Glover Teixeira
UFC President Dana White was quoted as saying “Chicago is a great fight town and we’re excited to come back to the United Center…” and “This will be our first big event on FOX for 2013 and we’ve lined up an incredible card.”
