Dec. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Phoenixville author, Gil Keough, a survivor of childhood physical and emotional abuse, has produced an innovative and dynamic story designed to help children, teens and young adults to cope with and conquer the effects of abuse in all it's forms. Unlike most "self-help" books on the subject that are written for adults, Haven's Brave deals with these sensitive issues in a tactful but forthright manner. It  shows how we can end the vicious cycle of rape, abuse, and bullying for generations to come by using a fictional story based on real people and events to instruct younger readers.

Every 2 minutes, in this country, someone is sexually assaulted and 1 out of 3 children is bullied every day! In this country, 800,000 children disappear every year and sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 54% still being left unreported. If they are not reported...who is helping the victims? Most of these victims/survivors live by a code of silence and suffer for years before getting help, if ever.

Abuse and bullying lead to depression, violence, eating disorders, acting out, cutting and in many cases, suicide. It is the author's hope that the novel will raise awareness in both children and adults whether they are victims/survivors of abuse or not. The book is currently being reviewed by school psychologists with the intent of possibly incorporating the material into a teaching guide for schools.

Gil has been the Director of Corporate Training and Seminar instructor/designer for a team-building and leadership training company and was trained by the FranklinCovey Company to teach Principle Centered Leadership skills to children of Middle and High School age. For over fifteen years, Gil has contributed to "breaking the cycle" by working with children of all ages to better their self image through expressions in art and dancing — he is also a personal defense trainer donating his time to help survivors of rape and abuse by empowering and teaching them how to defend themselves.
