Crossfit Paramount Opens Its Doors in Shoreline Washington

Can workouts that last less than 20 minutes make you fitter than most Olympic athletes? Thousands of people around the world say "yes" – and two of them are certified CrossFit coaches who are bringing the idea to Shoreline, Washington.
 
Dec. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- One glance inside the new CrossFit Paramount and you know you are in a different kind of gym. The machines that engulf a typical gym’s space are missing; most of the floor is open, gymnastics rings and a thick rope hang from the ceiling and a large pull-up rack hulks in a corner of the floor. In fact, the owners/coaches of CrossFit Paramount, Chris Douglas and Peter Hong, don’t even call it a gym, it’s a “CrossFit box.”

CrossFit is a training method used frequently by the military, firefighters and law enforcement, but can be adapted to any fitness level. “The CrossFit method uses constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements” says Coach Chris. “This means we do something different every day and use exercises that works your entire body in a way that mimics things you do in real life.” To which Coach Peter adds “The intensity is key. Everyone from an absolute beginner to a professional athlete is challenged…. And you are NEVER bored.”

CrossFit training is done as a group training session where camaraderie and a sense of humor can go a long way. Clients attend workout sessions two to five times a week during which every member is coached by a CrossFit-certified trainers to complete the workout of the day, or “WOD.” The goal of CrossFit training is to build physical skills in endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, balance, agility, and accuracy. These skills transfer into an ability to pick up—and do well at— nearly any sport or physical challenge that an athlete may encounter. At the end of each session, participants' times are recorded on a whiteboard to gauge progress from week to week. “The whiteboard definitely introduces an element of competition too. Everyone wants to know how they compare to not only their own times, but to everyone elses, and sometimes there’s some friendly rivalry going on.” says Coach Peter.

CrossFit Paramount is officially certified and affiliated with CrossFit Inc. and offers a unique training program that builds strong peer relationships while building strong bodies. Far from being exclusive to elite athletes, CrossFit Paramount trains all individuals, no matter the skill or fitness level, to become as fit as possible, using tested means of general physical preparedness.  

“CrossFit training celebrates, at its core, the sport of fitness,” says Christopher Douglas, co-owner of CrossFit Paramount. “You’ll exercise on a whole new level while incorporating a competitive edge driven by challenging sports moves that gets everyone’s blood pumping. I absolutely had to bring this fun, invigorating workout to a convenient location for everyone in north Seattle, so that a larger community has access to this incredible program.”

“We understand not everyone is an elite athlete. That’s why at CrossFit Paramount, we work with each and every client to ensure that we have the safest possible fitness plan in place," says Coach Peter. "Our programs deliver a fitness that is broad, general and inclusive, designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ll use our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and top athletes one month out from competition. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs."

Located just off of I-5 on Ballinger Way, CrossFit Paramount offers programs to challenge all fitness levels – from those interested in introductory fitness to elite athletes. Training sessions are currently scheduled Monday thru Friday afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings.  “We plan to add more sessions soon based on the times that work for our athletes.” says Coach Chris. “We will also be starting our CrossFit Paramount Kid’s Program late spring/early summer.

To introduce the gym to the community, CrossFit Paramount hosted  a Grand Opening and Open House on November 10, 2012 at 20021 Ballinger Way NE in Shoreline.  Festivities kicked off at noon and included a free workout open to all ages, no matter the fitness level. Attendees not wanting a workout cheered the athletes on.

After successfully building a thriving CrossFit community in Ketchikan,Coach Chris recently left the gym in good hands after deciding to return to Seattle.

Coach Peter Hong is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. Coach Peter has been training with Cascade CrossFit since February of 2012 and is in charge of their Sunday Strength and Technique class where he utilizes his eye for technique in Olympic Weightlifting to help members learn the world of Olympic Weightlifting and how it can benefit their CrossFit WODS.
