Motivation Monday ~ Merry Christmas ~ Gun Control and Peace on Earth!

Dec. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- In my initial response last week, I asked for us all to pray and asked God to guide us through this tragic time.  I questioned what “God” allows something like this to happen and to please provide us with some answers.

As with most tragedies, it provides opportunity.  Opportunity to turn to God, rather than away from God.  It empowers people to take action…and as you know by now, the motto of Motivate America is to, “take action to make things happen.”  So, I am “happy” not really the right word under the circumstances, but happy to see that people are empowered to make change.

However, it is very, very important for people to truly understand the arguments on both sides before we “take action.”

First. The mental and emotional well-being of the individuals that have perpetrated these mass shootings, including Ryan Lanza have to be taken into serious consideration.  Do we allow the actions of unstable individuals to take away freedoms from millions?   As someone that has written a book, “Who Are You?” and has several audio books focused on human behavior and personal development, we must look at how these young men are becoming more violent in their actions and why they are lashing out at society.  I strongly recommend that we review our national curriculum and begin to introduce more personal development and self understanding classes at an earlier age.

Unfortunately, part of this discussion is the Consitution and Constitutional rights given to Americans.  The Right to Bear Arms is significantly misunderstood and more complex than people realize.  This President and Administration are a good example of why this becomes a more complicated issue.  The general public seems to feel that government should continue to be more and more involved in our lives.  The “government” continues to grow at an alarming rate and yet people are either not aware or just not concerned, hence the “fiscal cliff.”  One of the intents of the Second Amendment is for Americans to “bear arms” against “enemies,” “foreign and domestic.”  While it may seem far fetched, as the government grows and there is a continual “power grab” that people are unaware of, what if there were some kind of “coup” in America to overthrow the government?  It almost happened in Wisconsin this year.  What if, we reach a “tipping point” where over 50% of the American population is employed by the government and they decide that they want President Obama to stay in office. What if, there were a military action by the President and this Administration to retain control, moving from “Socialism” to a “Dictatorship.”  Under these very unlikely circiumstances, our Founding Fathers wanted individuals to “bear arms” and fight for Democracy.  IF, we allow the government to once again reach too far into our lives and control what we can and can’t do and we lose the Constitutional Right to “bear arms,” THEN, should this extremely unlikely event occur, WE THE PEOPLE would not have a “militia” or any access to the kinds of weapons we would need to defend ourselves.

I KNOW, this seems very far fetched, but look around the world.  What do the Palestinians firght with?  Rocks.  While the Isrealis fight with? Guns.  It’s not a fair fight and once you disarm people, they are rendered essentially defenseless.

So, this is only one aspect of this issue and many Americans want to defend themselves and their families with whatever means they can find, including military style, assault guns.

There are also some other very real reasons why WE THE PEOPLE should continue to watch this very, very carefully.  Notice how quickly the Obama gun trade plan, “Fast and Furious” was swept out of the media and nobody speaks about it.  That’s right.  Our own government is funding and funneling guns and ammunition to the very drug addicts and thugs that are killing Americans.  And like Iran-Contra of the  Reagan Administration, our government continues to be the largest seller and distributor of arms in the world.

So, before we start giving away our Constitutional Right to Bear arms, let us ALL be very careful and knowledgeable about what actions we are taking.

I am NOT a fan of “assault weapons.”  I do NOT see why hunters would use an Uzi for deer hunting. They don’t.  We must find a balanced approach to our gun control laws without giving up our Consitutional Rights.

We must also keep in mind that Ryan Danza took these guns from his mother.  So, once again, you can have whatever, “Gun Control Law” you want in place. It would not have prevented this tragedy, because these were not his guns.  A law abiding citizen purchased these guns legally.  They were stolen from her and then used against her.  One of the arguments law enforcement officials use about gun owners.  If you draw your gun, you better be prepared to use it, because if you don’t, a perpetrator will take the gun from you and use it on you.

The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) response to the events of Sandy Hook Elementary have left many people dumb founded.  The NRA is saying to have someone armed in every school in America.  The quote that caught my attention was, “the only way to fight a bad guy with a gun, is with a good guy with a gun.”  This brings back the idea of wild west movies where there was almost always a bad guy with a black hat and a good guy with a white hat.  It always seemed to work in the movies!

Speaking of movies.  I must “shout out” to NYC Mayor Bloomberg and all the celebrities he had put together a video to act on gun control.   Listen, all good intentioned and a reaction to the horrible events of Sandy Hook, but lets all keep in mind that these are celebrities.  Nothing more.  They are entertainers.  I don’t know when or why these people feel like what they say is more important than the other 99% of Americans.  And I think if a Constitutional scholar explained to them what rights they are asking to give away they might think again, because, if there were ever a “coup” or anarchy, rest assured their homes of the wealthy, righ and famous would be the first ones ransacked and pillaged.  And I bet they would have a different opinion about being able to defend themselves and their families.

2012 has been a tumultuous year and has ended with an unthinkable tragedy.  This is a time for “advanced cisitzenship.”  This is a time for a sophisticated discussion about how to successfully maintain our Constitutional Rights, while also defending our babies and children.  What we can ALL agree on is that Sandy Hook was an unthinkable tragedy and it cannot happen again!  We need LEADERSHIP to guide a nonaccusational campaign to bring people together and not divide us further.  There is a way to create a solution that everyone can agree upon.  It just takes LEADERSHIP!

What we can also agree upon is that this a time for prayer, healing and reflection.  “Every time you point your finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing back at you.”  Let us not point fingers at each other, but rather reflect and find peace.  Let us continue to pray to whatever God you would like to pray to and ask for guidance and peace during this most holy time of year.
