Dec. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Assurance Power Systems Being Crippled by Aggressive Denial of Service Telephone Campaign

Boca Raton, FL - December 19th, 2012: Assurance Power Systems, America's Premier Generator Provider, has been under attack by an aggressive Denial of Service telephone campaign since early October. These types of Denial of Service, or DoS, campaigns typically target web sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root name servers. The mission of a DoS Campaign is to block the availability of a service from its' intended users.

"Our business is being crippled by thousands of automated hang-up calls almost every day. It is difficult at times to make outbound calls because all of our lines are being tied up by incoming hang-up calls. Additionally, new and existing customers are having a hard time calling in at times. As generator service professionals, we service many critical emergency generators at locations such as 911 dispatch centers, fire houses, data centers, and other critical locations. This is a faceless, blameless campaign to harass us and deny service to those that rely upon our services. We will continue to pursue this until the perpetrator is brought to justice. I hope that our efforts will make it more difficult for criminals to get away with these types of attacks in the future." says Will Ferrigno, President of Assurance Power Systems.

Assurance Power Systems (APS) has filed multiple complaints with the FCC, FBI, State Attorney General, and local law enforcement, as well as with their telephone carrier. No one has been able to stop the attack and the hang-up calls have intensified.

The attacks started out in early October as hundreds of late night hang up calls being made to random citizens that appeared to be coming from APS phone numbers - a practice known as Caller ID Spoofing. These calls generated hundreds of calls to APS by angry people who were hung up on. APS referred these individuals to the FCC to file complaints. On December 4th, APS had their main phone number "Slammed", a practice in which a phone number is transferred to another carrier without the authorization of the owner. Their phone number was literally stolen right out from underneath them, an act that completely shut down all phone service for an afternoon.

Since the Slamming incident, the hang up calls have intensified to almost 3,000 calls per day. Per the FCC, each of these hang up calls is punishable by up to $1,500 per incident. APS has been seeking assistance from their carrier, the FCC, and many other agencies, but to date no one has been able to identify the source of the this campaign or a solution to resolve it. In an era where the small business is the driver of our economy, APS, although expanding by over 30% year to date, is struggling to cope with this malicious attack.
