Dec. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Pupils from Year 3 at Bedales Pre-prep, Dunannie, enjoyed a visit to Winchester Discovery Centre at the end of term as part of their project on Native America. The children explored the fantastic sculptures woven by Laura Ellen Bacon and enjoyed all the craft activities organised for Dunannie by the Hampshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers in their colourful exhibition in the City Space Gallery.

Earlier in the term, the children had explored how to weave and create structures using natural materials. The visit to the exhibition at Winchester’s Discovery Centre enabled the children to see this kind of technique used by an artist to make huge structures in a Gallery setting.

Commenting on the visit, Head of Dunannie, Jo Webbern, said:” Our pupils were mesmerised and excited by Laura Ellen Bacon’s structures and went off exploring within seconds. It was inspirational to see Laura’s work in light of the skills the children had developed during the term in weaving with natural materials. The children really expressed their imaginative ideas when describing these textile structures and were in awe of the sheer scale, design and beauty of the exhibition.”
