About International Participants

JAPAN:
Taiko is an ancient Japanese form of percussion, using large drums. The drums range in size from roughly a snare drum ("shime"), to drums as large as a car (the "o-daiko"). One of Taiko's most defining aspects is its dynamic playing style. Taiko playing is loud, hard, and fast, and involves a lot of choreographed movement which many identify with Japanese martial arts. Since their founding in 1999, the group has only improved with each performance. The members strive to work together and challenge themselves musically to improve their expressiveness on stage.

We now bring you the tradition dance form from our own home state Maharashtra- The Lavani- a vigorous and full blooded dance, with sensuous movement, evocative lyrics and heavy on rhythm.

ROMANIA: The Folk ensemble from Romania was founded in 2005. The repertoire is formed by dance of all the regions of Romania: Oltenia, Muntenia, Moldova, Ardeal, Dobrogea, Banat, Bihor, Fagaras. Each dance is performed in a different costume that belongs to the region of origin.

The folk ensemble has participated in many national and international festivals & has represented their folklore in countries like, England, Scotland, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Cyprus, Switzerland and Spain, and now in India.

After Romania, we present the folk art form of Kathakali, from Kerala. A dance form, difficult to master, it requires years of practice to prepare for performance. Dramatic, larger than life, elaborately costumed, Kathakali  calls for highly skilled artistes with mastery of facial control and expression.

SERBIA: The Ensemble represents the richness of Serbian folklore in a new and attractive way, prevailing on the enthusiasm of the audience wherever they perform. With classical ballet as its base and strength, vigor and youth as its hallmarks, the style of the group is bold, powerful and of staggering athleticism. The costumes and music are authentic, chosen for their beauty and variety, representing the unique character of Serbian and Balkan folklore.

ITALY: This Flag throwing  group was formed in 1966 in the ancient city of Cori, 50 km south of Rome. The group has received several awards over the years both at home and abroad. The group’s spectacular performances have been enhanced over the years through the musical support  of both, tambourines and trumpets.

From extreme South to North, the Punjabi Bhangda  remains one of the most popular folk forms of dance in India. Performed with full gusto to the rhythm of the dhols, the Bhangda ia a celebratory dance, joyous and inviting in its very essence.

SRI LANKA: The Group is well recognized in The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka since 1994 & has represented Sri Lanka in over 40 International events recognized by the International folk and culture organization. The elegance and grace of the group’s performances has gained appreciation and approbation internationally, and  has won some prestigious awards.

After a morning that has elated us with scintillating performances, we invite on stage the dance groups to come and take a bow.

Esteemed guests, a huge round of applause for these talented entertainers who do their countries proud!
