-- New Orleans native Lynette Norris Wilkinson is one of 100 writers and artists featured in an exciting new book anthology about New Orleans written by members of its community. An excerpt from her award-winning book, “UNTOLD: The New Orleans 9th Ward You Never Knew”(www.HurricaneKatrinaStories.com)
appears in the anthology, “New Orleans by New Orleans,” a collection of flash fiction, essays, poetry, song lyrics and art, all inspired by New Orleans, with each work created from a different perspective. The book is a powerful read, with poignant anecdotes, childhood memories of buildings long gone, family lineages, harrowing hurricane experiences, a talking cockroach, everyday life in the city, and a lot more. Wilkinson’s excerpt, “My Story: New Orleans Ninth Ward,” depicts in heartwarming detail her memories of growing up in the New Orleans Lower 9th Ward, the area that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Book by Authors is the program producing “New Orleans by New Orleans.” The program was created by Smolarcorp in 2006 in response to the National Endowment for the Arts' The Big Read - a program that encourages a city to collectively Read One Book. In contrast, Book by Authors creates a model for a city to Write One Book about itself. For more information visit www.bookbyauthors.org.
