By experiencing the popular music of the day, the audience learns what life was like 100 years ago. As with today’s music; love, technology, local pride, dance, popular culture, and social issues are all hot topics a hundred years ago. Free Range Opera presents an historic sampler of songs from the ragtime era including enduring hits of the day, novelty songs, and works from stage luminaries including selections from Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha and songs from the 1919 Broadway hit Irene. We take a musical view of relationships, entertainment icons, technology, and the influence of classic and popular culture. Composers include Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, Harry Tierney, Sigmund Romberg, Percy Wenrich, Harry Von Tilzer and others.
