AED 40,000 donated for breast cancer awareness

The proceeds from Kaya Skin Clinic’s sales on their signature Kaya Couture Face Therapies in October – also International Breast Cancer Awareness Month –have been donated to Pink Caravan, a Friends of Cancer Patients charity initiative (FoCP) that is dedicated to fighting breast cancer and spreading awareness about the disease.

Dr. Sawsan Al Madhi, head of the Pink Caravan’s medical committee said, “Breast cancer awareness has taken a front seat in the minds of both men and women in the UAE this October and gained further importance as a result of collaborations like the one with Kaya Skin Clinic.”

Breast Cancer is generally considered to affect middle-aged women, but due to increased awareness and promotion of the importance of self examination, this belief has been increasingly shown to be less true as studies show that breast cancer is affecting more Emirati and expatriate women in their twenties and thirties in the UAE.

“We believe that knowledge is the first step towards cure, and in collaboration with organisations like Kaya Skin Clinic, Pink Caravan is making its mark on the community through progressive awareness campaigns as well as providing financial and emotional support to patients and their families.”

The proceeds, amounting to AED 40,000, were raised from the sale of Kaya couture, the clinic’s signature range of face therapies. Kaya Skin Clinic is known for delivering beauty through the latest technology to Middle Eastern consumers in a serene and Zen-like ambience, while maintaining a seamless blend of science, aesthetics and cosmetology.

About Pink Caravan:

The Pink Caravan is a Pan UAE initiative launched by the Friends of Cancer Patients charity, in 2011, to commemorate the occasion of their 10th anniversary celebrations. Through this noble initiative, they are strongly campaigning towards bringing about awareness of breast cancer in the country. The campaign was launched in 2011 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and under the directives of Her Highness SheikhaJawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Honorary President of the FoCP.  

The Pink Caravan is under the umbrella of the "KASHF" program, which is an initiative to promote awareness of the importance of the early detection of cancer. KASHF also works towards providing information and guidance towards the early detection of many types of cancer, i.e. breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate, melanoma, and colon cancer. Their first project is flagged through the Pink Caravan Campaign.

The Pink Caravan campaign is specifically designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage women to perform self-examinations and go for regular medical check-ups. The campaign will run annually until 2014, focusing on all areas across the UAE, including remote and outlying areas, as well as city suburbs. The funds raised during this awareness campaign will ensure the availability of the latest technology in the early screening and detection of breast cancer, making it accessible to all women in the UAE.
