-- Kaneohe Bay has a new weapon to fight the war on trash. MAGS-in-a-Box (MIAB), a unique Micro Auto Gasification System™ that eliminates waste in a clean manner, arrived at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay (K-Bay) on the island of Oahu on December 3, 2012.
MIAB is being hosted by Combat Logistics Battalion 3 (CLB-3) where operator and maintainer training is currently underway through December 14th. From its current location, MIAB will next be packed and transported via USMC tactical transport to a barge for movement to the Big Island and the Puhakoloa Training Area (PTA) for exercise Lava Viper to be conducted during the month of January where it will process all organic waste from the exercise.
MAGS-in-a-Box, developed by Terragon Environmental Technologies Inc.
, with support from Power Ten, Inc. http://www.powerteninc.com
, can gasify the organic waste, paper, plastics, chemicals and wood waste generated by up to 1,000 Marines per day. The process, which is safe for communities and the environment, reduces the volume of waste by more than 95%. Methane and CO2 in the waste is converted to harmless char, a carbonaceous material that can be either used as a soil additive or safely landfilled, limiting the formation of substantial quantities of methane and carbon dioxide.
Following completion of the exercises in Hawaii, MIAB will travel in March and April to the Republic of the Philippines where Allied forces and other groups will receive first-hand demonstrations.
