Philadelphia Fashion Designer Exceeds Kickstarter Goal of $20,000 in 8 Days

Dec. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Duke & Winston Founder, Seun Olubodun, knew he was on to something when he printed his first 50 shirts and sold out in one day. Since 2009, the solo entrepreneur has worked tirelessly to promote his brand, and recently decided to use Kickstarter to appeal to a more national audience.

He carefully crafted a campaign for the popular crowdfunding site, allotting $5,000 to collection of samples, $10,000 to entry to major trade shows in New York City and Las Vegas, and $5,000 for the fulfillment of rewards for his backers—a total of $20,000 for the campaign to receive funding. Using their Facebook and Twitter accounts to promote the campaign, Duke & Winston encouraged backers to donate in increments of $25 to $2,500, with a custom reward for each donation.

Per the parameters of Kickstarter, each campaign has 30 days to hit their goal. If the goal is not hit, the campaign will not receive any funding. In Duke & Winston’s case, within 8 days of posting their “Refined Casual Gear for Gents, Made in the USA” Campaign, they have exceeded their $20,000 goal. With 21 days left until their campaign concludes, the brand is hopeful to raise even more than they had anticipated.

Olubodun states, “Its been amazing how people have been able to identify with my "How to make it in America" type hustle and have been pledging without even knowing me personally, some pledging thousands of dollars at a time. In the last 8 days, I have received countless phone calls and emails from Kickstarter backers that love my story (opening a store in my apartment and driving up and down the east coast in my van selling shirts). The whole experience has been very overwhelming and I am very appreciative of the chance I now have to grow Duke & Winston in a major way in 2013 thanks to pledges from fans all over the world.”
