Consumers Now Learning How To Airbrush Makeup Through Internet Makeup Gurus

Airbrush Makeup, once the domain of professional makeup artists, is now being practiced more and more by every day consumers who are empowered by the growing trend in online 'makeup gurus'.

Dec. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- With the rise of so-called 'makeup gurus' on the internet the bar has been raised for the quality of work created by the makeup hobbyist. No longer is airbrush makeup the realm of professionals since the once closely-guarded secret techniques that were known to those who had spent years studying their trade are now being shared daily on beauty blogs and YouTube.

Airbrush makeup has traditionally been a daunting realm for aspiring makeup artists who feared it was too technical for those used to simply using brush, sponge or their fingers for traditional makeup application. However, the past few years have seen a wave of 'makeup gurus' eager to share the technique behind their looks. Perhaps one of the most high profile of these is Michelle Phan (http://michellephan.com/), who quickly earned herself a following of millions through her instructional videos on YouTube. It was not long before companies were knocking on her door offering endorsements and sponsorship.

Forums have also popped up such as Makeup Talk where amateur makeup artists can talk to professionals and learn their tips and tricks. Being able to talk to as well as to see how makeup artists create their looks is the key to empowering those aspiring to the same level who would otherwise never have contact with people who hold this level of knowledge in their field.

Says Michelle, "I'm just so happy that my website has taken off like this. It's fantastic to be able to contribute to a community that you love by writing about something that you are really passionate about."

This rise of online makeup gurus sharing beauty secrets through the web is blurring the line between professional and hobbyist. By being empowered to discover the creativity within themselves, many of these hobbyist are becoming gurus in their own right and are able to earn some income through partnering with YouTube or by finding advertisers for their blogs. Some are now innovators who, through the internet, are able to disseminate new makeup looks, creations and techniques across the globe in just a matter of hours to an audience of thousands, if not millions.

Just two years ago Michelle Harris started Airbrush Makeup Salon (http://www.airbrushmakeupsalon.com/) as a place for those new to airbrushing to learn how to use the applicator. Airbrushing is unique in the makeup world in that the makeup is a liquid which is sprayed onto the skin as a fine mist. The machine is basically exactly the same as the airbrush that a painter would use: it has a compressor which releases air and an airbrush gun (or, stylus) through which the air mixes with the liquid makeup and applied to the skin. To many, airbrushing seems like such a big leap from brushes and powder makeup. However, through her website, Michelle takes the reader through the steps to learning how to master the technique with various guides on how to apply foundation, blush, contouring and highlighting as well as assembling the machine and disassembling for cleaning.

Often the most difficult step for those considering airbrush makeup is understanding the difference between the many different brands out there. There is a lot of information but so little of it is organized into a single space and it can be hard to sort the advertising from real reviews. Michelle published her airbrush makeup reviews (http://www.airbrushmakeupsalon.com/airbrush-makeup-kit-re...) in order to help makeup artists make an informed decision about which airbrush makeup kit would be right for them. The response has been phenomenal with many leaving appreciative and supportive comments on her website.

So what does the future hold for airbrush makeup on the web? "It's very exciting," says Harris. "The past few years have changed things for makeup artists and it has happened so quickly. I didn't know what to expect when I started my website on airbrush makeup (http://www.airbrushmakeupsalon.com/). We can only guess what the next few years will hold but, whatever it is, I know it will be wonderful!"
