Tyromer Inc. Wins the Cup at Recycling Idol 2012

DECEMBER 11 – MISSISSAUGA – ON – Recycling Idol – a special feature of the RIC Centre’s Growing Your Business Breakfast with the Experts series selected Tyromer Inc. as the winner on Thursday, Dec 6th, 2012.

Dec. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The event was a competition where American Idol meets Dragon’s Den to showcase four top recycling technology companies chosen from a pool of over 40 applicants across Southern Ontario.

Sam Visaisouk, CEO of Tyromer Inc. says "Recycling Idol offered us a forum to reach out to a broad cross-section of citizens interested in environmental and societal issues.  It is exciting for us that this broad audience shares our passion and mission, thereby validating our vision. This recognition is timely as I am leaving for China and Russia on Tyromer business - it is being endorsed!"

Tyromer recycles tires using a unique devulcanization process. Devulcanization is the breaking down of the rigid structure of tire rubber so that it can be used again in the manufacturing of rubber goods such as new tires.  Tyromer's technology offers a viable solution to the problems associated with the burning of scrap tires.

Over 150 people attended the event to listen to pitches from our four finalists; Ryan Jantzi from B&R Custom Machining Limited (http://www.bandrcustommachining.ca/about-us.htm), which has a process that cleans contaminated tire wire into steel and rubber; Ryan L’Abbe from Blue Mountain Plastics Inc. (http://www.iceriversprings.ca/), who have a “closed loop” PET plastic recycling operation; Sam Visaisouk from Tyromer Inc.; and Bruce Ballantyne from CR Plastic Products Inc. (http://www.crpproducts.com/), maker of high quality patio furniture from recycled plastic.

The investor panel of cleantech experts included Gord Miller, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario; Michael Castellarin, the Managing Director at private equity firm Clairvest Inc.; and Franco Hasou, Partner at Ernst and Young’s Cleantech Practice. Congratulations to Ryan Jantzi from B&R Custom Machining Ltd., the panelist choice winner of Recycling Idol. Watch a recap of the session in the video by BiZTV Canada: http://ow.ly/g10Jm

“We were blown away by the quality of the 40+ applicants and it was tough to get it down to the top four.  All four gave great presentations and the audience had a tough time selecting the winner which in the end came down to one vote.” says James Sbrolla, RIC Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

"We are ecstatic that Tyromer was selected as a winner at the first RICC Recycling Idol event. OTS is committed to working with the innovative companies pioneering the development of high-value recycled rubber products in Ontario and this recognition of Tyromer by the innovation community reflects the unlimited potential of this industry in the province.” says Andrew Horsman, Executive Director of Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS).
