Marbella Luxury Property Now Significantly Undercuts Competitor European Resorts
The Italian Lakes and Riviera, Côte d’Azur, Balearics and Marbella have been favoured holiday home destinations for the international jetset for decades. With popularity comes high prices but one is now surprisingly affordable – Marbella.
Nick Stuart, Director of Marbella-based Spanish Hot Properties, explains, “It’s tricky to compare apples with apples, but if you look at prime Côte d’Azur such as Cannes, St Tropez and Villefranche, a luxury coastal villa can be priced anything between 20,000 and 40,000 euros per square metre. Mallorca dips a little lower at 10,000 to 20,000 euros per square metre with the Italian Lakes around 10,000 euros. Even in Sierra Blanca, the coveted hillside community set above Marbella’s Golden Mile, the area’s best address, prices hover between the 3,000 and 7,000 euro per square metre mark. Marbella suddenly seems incredibly good value.”
Considering Marbella’s exquisite location, at the southernmost tip of Europe therefore squeezing more sunshine hours and higher temperatures out of the entire year than the French or Italian Riviera ever will, not to mention direct year-round flight connections to Northern Europe, Russia, North Africa and North America, prices haven’t surged with such ferocity as they have on other elite coastlines. The vagaries of the Spanish economy, lack of “easy” credit and vendors’ decisions to “move on” due to personal or financial circumstances have kept a lid on outrageous square metre prices.
Nick continues, “We have literally some of the finest real estate on the Costa del Sol within our portfolio. From Marbella’s Golden Mile, home to the 1954-established Marbella Club Hotel and 1979-established Puente Romano Hotel, both Leading Hotels of the World, to the super secure 900 hectare country estate of La Zagaleta and the aforementioned Sierra Blanca in the foothills of La Concha Mountain, minutes behind Marbella. To think it would cost up to 85,000 pounds per square metre for a top serviced apartment in London’s Knightsbridge but you can take the best Marbella has to offer for a twentieth of the price is quite incredible. Something we certainly need to shout about.”
