The Los Angeles chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association announced the kick-off of their end-of-the year fund raising campaign today. The chapter provides information, referrals and support to anyone diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease it the Los Angeles area. Chapter president Patrik LoSasso said: "Without the financial support generated through fundraising, the Los Angeles Chapter would not be able to ease the burden of Parkinsons Disease for those in our area". The Los Angeles chapter provides an Information and Referral Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. For the past 14 years Linda O’Connor has been the Coordinator. “I feel incredibly privileged to work closely with the APDA LA Chapter because I truly believe that without their presence in the community, and without the caring and compassion of their members, people Living with PD would be struggling alone to find support.” The purpose of the Center is to be a hub for services to anyone diagnosed with PD and comm unity outreach to increase awareness and understanding of PD in greater Los Angeles. As researchers around the world work toward a cure there must also be services available to help people live with the day to day challenges this disease brings. The APDA, which started as a non-profit organization in 1961, recognized this need and set its mission to help find the cure but also ease the burden. The Los Angeles Chapter of the APDA is the local face of the national organization and carries on this mission by fundraising for research but also supporting local programs and creating better awareness of PD and its impact on people’s lives in the larger community.
