The “terrible twos” is a phrase most parents are very familiar with, striking fear into parents of one year olds and leaving parents of three and four year olds wondering how many years it lasts! Difficult bedtimes being commonplace and the battle to control endless energy whilst teaching your little one how to behave.

A mum from rural New Brunswick, Canada has developed what she says is a great tool to help parents everywhere, her own iPhone app.  Tracey Graham, originally from England, who now lives with her husband and two children near the Village of Gagetown, NB, said “One night our three year old was playing up and not settling to go to sleep. Nothing was working and he was overly tired but would not sleep”.  “I decided to get my phone and played a sound clip of my husband pretending to be Santa Claus, asking if our son was being well behaved.  He had sent it whilst he was away traveling for business”.  The results were instant.  He calmed down, said “I will be good now mummy”, rolled over and went to sleep.

From there the app idea was born. With different sound effects, voice clips and rewards system, a prototype was tested by over twenty families.  In each case the result remarkable.  Easier bedtimes and a visual reward system that allows children to aim for something. One couple saying “You think its just you, everyone else has children that just go to bed, settle and don’t cause you to sometimes be at your wits end!  We use the app on our iPod probably once a week, it works everytime, I LOVE IT!”

With sales already in Switzerland, UK, Australia and Canada it is validation that parents everywhere obviously feel the same.

The Toddler Toolkit app is available for download in iTunes here
