Vancomycin-Intermediate & Vancomycin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Discussed in New Online Video

Dec. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses Vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA).

They are considered a healthcare-associated infection (HAI).  People who develop this type of staph infection may have underlying health conditions, tubes going into their bodies, previous infections with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and recent exposure to vancomycin and other antimicrobial agents.
 
“Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium commonly found on the skin and in the nose of about 30% of individuals, usually staph does not cause any harm,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “Sometimes staph bacteria can get into the bloodstream and cause serious infections which can be fatal.  We hope this video helps to educate people about VISA and VRSA.”
