Seven Psychiatrists Involved In Sexual Assault In Past Seven Years In Canada

Psychiatric assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice for these criminal activities

Dec. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Vancouver- December 8, 2012-- According to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights seven psychiatrists have either been criminally convicted, stripped of their license to practice or severely reprimanded in Canada in the past 7 years for assaulting their patients or for misconduct with patients. One of the psychiatrists was sentenced to 18 months in jail for his criminal activities.

Dr. Aubrey Levin, the forensic psychiatrist currently on trial for 10 counts of assault in Alberta, Canada, is the same psychiatrist who was named for possible “gross human rights abuses” during Apartheid rule in 1997 by South Africa’s “Truth and Reconciliation Commission”. Members of the media at the time of the Apartheid era had dubbed him “Dr. Shock” because of his alleged use of electric shock on conscripts.

It has been alleged, on good authority, that in the 1980s and 1990s Levin, then a colonel, was the chief psychiatrist at 1 Military Hospital’s infamous Ward 22, where conscripts and soldiers were “treated” with aversion therapy.

Last month, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario suspended Dr. Stanley Dobrowolski’s practice pending an investigation of the alleged abuse of a female patient.

A North Vancouver psychiatrist was suspended for two years by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. after admitting to having inappropriate relationships with two patients between 2008 and 2010. Dr. Peter Sung-Ho Lim admitted to telephoning and sending text messages of an “inappropriate and personal nature” to one patient and engaging in a relationship with another, the college said.

Brian Beaumont, president of the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, said “Psychiatric assault is a very common occurrence over the world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspension from practice for these criminal activities”. “There has been ample evidence that women are at very great risk of being assaulted while in a psychiatrist's office”.

Dr. Carol Elaine Davies admitted that she was guilty of unprofessional conduct with respect to her interaction with a former patient who was an inmate with Correctional Services Canada (CSC). In 2003, Dr. Davies provided pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy services in psychiatric clinics at facilities of CSC. Following the termination of such services, Dr. Davies visited the former patient/inmate on frequent occasions over a one year period. Dr. Davies admitted that her conduct involved the creation of a personal relationship with a former patient and that such a relationship was inappropriate and unprofessional given the nature of the prior psychotherapeutic relationship. The College of Physicians and Surgeons ordered (among other things) that Dr. Davies’ future professional conduct must be beyond reproach in every respect

Dr. Bacon, a retired Victoria B.C. psychiatrist, admitted that he was guilty of infamous conduct.

A child psychiatrist, Dr. Golden, was stripped of his license to practice and was labeled a sexual predator by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia after they found him guilty of sexual relations with three young female patients between 2000 and 2005.

In February 2006, Dr. Larry Anderson, a Penticton psychiatrist was sentenced to 18 months in jail for assaulting female patients under his care. The charges involved three former patients with whom he had intercourse in separate relationships from the late 1970s until 1999.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights
