-- Coach Stephen Souky of the Niskayuna Girls Basketball Biddy B side is excited to announce the upcoming tryouts for next basketball season. Tryouts will be run by Stephen Souky in the Niskayuna High School Gym.
The Biddy B side of the Niskayuna Girls Basketball team is a competitive travel team open to girls who live in the Niskayuna area and will be in the sixth grade at the start of basketball season. “Playing with the Biddy B side is a great way for young girls to get a head start on developing the skills they’ll need to play competitively in high school and college,” said Stephen Souky. “We’re a competitive team for sure, but our biggest goal is enhancing skills, developing teamwork and leadership, and fostering a love of basketball in a supportive and healthy environment.”
The Niskayuna Girls Basketball Team is comprised of four travel sides, Biddy A, Biddy B, Junior A, and Junior B, which cater to girls with basketball experience in grades 5 through 8. The team is a member of the Capital District Girls Basketball League. Head coach Stephen Souky discussed tryout procedures by saying, “We limit the team to ten players each season, and the team each year is chosen by a panel of coaches from each side, including myself. Anyone who is not selected to play on the travel side is absolutely welcome to join us in the recreational basketball league.”
Stephen Souky places an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork on the Biddy B side, and remarked that demonstrated cooperation is one of the aspects of players that he looks for during tryouts. “On my team, I focus on building a community that’s based on respect for teammates, competition, coaches, and referees, as well as a deep seeded love of the game. Everyone is guaranteed playing time in every match, and I spend time at each practice working with individual players to give attention to skills that need developed. On the flip side, I expect my players to understand that by joining the team, they’re making a commitment to work hard and they come to every practice.”
Tryouts will be held in September, and interested players are welcome to contact Stephen Souky for additional information.
