94 Year Old Nashville Business Woman Taking Her 57 Year Old Company High Tech
At 94 years young, most people would have long since set sail for smoother waters than those usually found swirling around the executive offices of a $50 million dollar enterprise, but not Grace Grissom, founder of Mrs. Grissom's Salads.
At 94 years young, most people would have long since set sail for smoother waters than those usually found swirling around the executive offices of a $50 million dollar enterprise, but not her. She loves being in the middle of things. “I never had any interest in sitting around doing nothing,” beamed Mrs. Grissom who maintains the same office she’s occupied for decades at the company’s Nashville headquarters. “I love this business, I love our customers and I love coming to the office and staying involved,” she continued as she shuffled through a stack of papers on her desk.
This week, Grissom’s CEO announced an historic first in the 57 year operation of the company that started on a kitchen table in 1955. “We get requests on a fairly regular basis from people who grew up eating Mrs. Grissom’s products but have moved out of our retail market area and miss having access to them,” said Mrs. Grissom’s son-in-law and CEO Kenneth Funger. “So far, the response has been surprisingly good.” Funger said initial orders have come from New York, Ohio, Virgina and Florida.
“I would never have dreamed we’d be shipping Mrs. Grissom’s spreads all over the country,” commented Mrs. Grissom, “I know my late husband Herbert would be proud too.”
Mrs. Grissom’s new online ordering is being handled through the worldwide network of Amazon.com and can be accessed by visiting the company’s website at www.mrsgrissoms.com.
Along with online ordering comes another first--Christmas gift collections available only through their online store. “This is the first time in our history that someone can send a gift box of Mrs. Grissom’s to anyone in America,” added Grissom’s VP and General Manager Keith McIntosh. “We’ve developed three collections that are designed to give the sender an easy gift choice and the receiver a taste of true Southern goodness. We anticipate shipping a lot of Mrs. Grissom’s this season.”
